Hilton Head General & Laparoscopic Surgery, P.A., currently doing business as Surgical Specialists, was founded in 2000. Dr. Thomas P. Rzeczycki, one of the founders, moved to Hilton Head Island in 1998, after completing general surgical residency at Brown University. In 2003 Dr. Richard L. Hussong, Jr., moved to South Carolina and joined the practice after completing general surgical residency at University of Tennessee-Memphis and then practicing with the Toledo Clinic for several years .
Surgical Specialists provides a broad range of general surgical services, including on-site ultrasound imaging (breast & thyroid) and ultrasound-guided biopsies, on-site minor procedures, outpatient operations at the Outpatient Surgery Center of Hilton Head and Hilton Head Hospital, and inpatient operations at the hospital.
Our board certified general surgeons have a wealth of experience in the surgical management of diseases and conditions of the breast, endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract, abdominal wall and skin. They have a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, ranging from breast conservation therapy with sentinel lymph node biopsy to laparoscopic colon resection for benign and malignant diseases, as well as laparoscopic gallbladder removal, hernia repair, splenectomy and fundoplication for treatment of acid reflux.
